No man is an island

I’ve been hearing a lot about how some people are self-made or they achieved status in their chosen field through hard work. Well, I don’t doubt that many successful people have worked hard to get where they are, but I don’t buy the notion that they’ve made it on their own merits. No one has become what they are today without the help of others. Civilization is organized around the collective. The many working together for the betterment of all. Even though our society promotes the individual, it is the group that provides that individual with all they require to become successful. This is just my opinion. What do others think?
